TOWN OF SHARON
ASSESSORS MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 14, 2003
7:00 P.M. Called meeting to order. Present: Ellen Abelson, Paula Keefe and Mark
Mazur
The Board reviewed and approved as amended the minutes to our July 24, 2003
meeting.
The Administrative Assessor described last weeks review of our FY2004 revaluation
by a representative of the State Bureau of Local Assessment.
The Board reviewed documents related to our fiscal year 2004 revaluation including
the following:
A summary of residential sales ratio studies that were conducted for single
families, multi-families, condominiums and vacant land.
A summary of changes that were made to our residential tables and schedules.
The Board reviewed and approved as amended a proposal for conducting the public
notification program for our FY2004 revaluation. The program will include the following:
Placing a legal notice in the Patriot Ledger and giving a press release
to the Sharon Advocate.
Placing printouts with the assessments in our office and the Town Library
for a period of two weeks.
Sending change of assessment notices to all owners located outside of Sharon.
Placing a notice on the local cable television station for that two weeks.
Holding hearings by appointment only.
The Board read an article on commercial development in Sharon from the 8/14/03
Boston Globe.
The Board read a letter from HPKF LLC notifying the Board of their intent to sell a
9.01 acre parcel on Walpole Street. Because the property was in chapter 61A prior to 2002, they are required to notify the Town and give the Town the option to purchase it. They also may be required to pay rollback taxes to repay some of the tax benefits that they received while under chapter 61A.
The Board discussed the possibility of changing the night of their Board meetings
during six weeks in October and November so that one Board member could attend an assessing class on Thursday nights.
Our next Board meeting will be held on Thursday night September 4th.
